At first, Melissa Lambert didn’t like the idea of keeping a dog as a pet. As she and her husband were already juggling tasks, which included taking care of three young girls, a dog would make them extremely busy. However, Melissa’s decision changed when she saw a Treeing Walker Coonhound at the local shelter where she brought her kids to play with the cute animals.
Melissa was instantly drawn to the 4-year-old dog and decided to adopt him. The dog was found on the street when he was rescued. A shelter in West Virginia even labeled him as unadoptable. The Lamberts named the dog Edgar. After a few months of keeping him as a pet, he became a hero to three girls because of his brave act.
Edgar scared off a man who, according to the police, wanted to abduct a child. The man broke into the Lamberts’ home as he made his way through the first-floor window. The incident happened on April 28 in the wee hours of the morning. The next day, police captured a suspect who admitted to the investigators that he was on the prowl for young children.
Thomas Dewald was the same suspect for the abduction of a 4-year-old girl he snatched from her bed while sleeping on April 25. The girl was held captive in a wooden box. Luckily, she escaped when Dewald went to work according to court documents that police gathered.
Dewald continued to prey on young children since that girl escaped. But the heroic dog Edgar wouldn’t allow him to harm the three little girls. Although Edgar was a laid-back dog, he did a great job of saving the girls from endangerment. Edgar was in pure rage, and he wouldn’t stop even when Thom, Melissa’s husband, tried to calm him down.
The Lamberts knew that their awesome dog deserves to be recognized as a hero for saving their three little girls.
