Inspiration takes many different forms and comes from different sources. For an author named Eileen Doyon, it came from the story of a wounded veteran named Christy Gardner. And she lived with her trusty companion and service dog named Moxie. Having both of her legs amputated, Christy had to rely on her inner strength and fortitude to overcome the challenges life thrown at her by life. And living with Moxie seemed to have helped her a great deal.
Christy’s life and survival
Veterans like Christy had to have a reliable support system to be in great shape, both in physical and mental aspects. Part of this was that she became a sled hockey player for the New England warriors. Moxie was also never far away from her.
Christy had also decided to adopt and train a puppy named Lucky. Eventually, Lucky had become a therapy dog. The dog had started out with a physical challenge, but this would prove to be inspirational for Eileen, the author.
Christy had helped Eileen with a book back in 2014. Since then, they had stayed in touch. The two women also had another common connection. Eileen’s husband was from the same hometown as Christy’s, which was Lewiston, Maine.
A book for the pup
Eileen said that she was inspired to write the book “Lucky…Little Guy, Big Mission” after finding out that Christy chose to take Lucky home and give him another lease on life. Eileen said that when she met Christy, she was inspired to serve the country. After Christy’s discharge, Eileen was still inspired about never giving up on anything in life regardless of circumstances.
Christy told Eileen that Lucky was like her and that she wanted to help the poor pup. According to Eileen, Lucky was proving everyone that being different was ok and that one should never, never give up.
As Eileen’s pledge, 50% of the book sales would go to Christy to support her in the mission of training more dogs to become a service or therapy dog.
