Melissa wanted to give back to her community by helping homeless pets get adopted, so she started thinking about ways on how to showcase all the shelter residents in need of help. Melissa shared that she realized it would help potential adopters have a different perspective of how the animals would be like in a calmer environment when the idea of spending the night at the shelter came into her mind.
The Foothills Animal Rescue worker said that staying in the shelter for the night helps her realize what life is like for the animals while they are in the pound. Melissa eventually started scheduling slumber parties to help all the cats and dogs that have been in the kennel the longest.

Melissa shared that she sleeps in different kennels every night to get to know all the animals she is helping. Melissa said she sometimes spends the evening in the place called Kitty Corner to hang out with the shelter cats.
Melissa said that bad news is all over the television, especially with the pandemic that has been happening. Melissa wanted to bring some joy into people’s lives by reminding them that it is the perfect time to adopt shelter animals since the majority are at home nowadays.
Melissa shared that she hopes that having slumber parties with the shelter animals would give potential adopters a different perspective of how a particular animal might be like when they are home. Melissa said that she is hopeful that it would make people want to come to the shelter and adopt.
Melissa said that having slumber parties helped some animals come out of their shells. Melissa shared that seeing withdrawn cats and dogs cuddling up with her feels gratifying because she knows that she was able to help them be the animal they were always meant to be.
