Vet And Stray Pup Celebrate Anniversary Of Friendship

Vet And Stray Pup Celebrate Anniversary Of Friendship

Amelia Becket January 26, 2020

Veterinarians are our kind of heroes. With their white capes, or rather coats, they make sure that our furry friends are as healthy as they are supposed to be. Some even go above and beyond to ensure their patients’ well-being, which includes their emotional state.

Dr. Andy Mathis advocates such a self-sacrificing spirit. He works at an animal clinic in Georgia, and he lives and breathes his passion and love for animals. On his website, he encourages everyone to consider pets as family members.

The exemplary vet practices what he preaches. A very touching moment between him and a traumatized puppy was caught in a video. The abandoned Pitbull was chanced upon by people who could not keep her but kindly brought her to the clinic.

Graycie Claire was suffering from hypothermia and dehydration when she was first brought to the clinic. Worse, she had a prolapsed uterus, which is affecting her ability to urinate naturally. Dr. Mathis immediately performed surgery and also made sure she is spayed.

While recuperating, the volunteers had a problem feeding her. She was already so skinny when she arrived she has no more extra weight to lose. But the undernourished pup is reluctant to eat. That is when the dedicated vet decided to do something about it.

Dr. Mathis went inside the kennel to have breakfast with Graycie Claire. The pooch was so terrified she was trying to shrink into the corner. The vet gave Graycie her own bowl and showed her how to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee. The doctor had his own matching bowl and soon started to eat.

After some time, when he tried to offer the food on his palm, Graycie was enticed to nibble. Eventually, she was eating on her own and devouring her food. The video is more than six minutes, but watching it will be worth it. Dr. Mathis humbly shared that his staff do the same to other patients when needed.

Graycie has come a long way after one year. Dr. Mathis recently shared a photo of him and the adorable Pitbull enjoying an anniversary meal, this time over a table with flowers and candles. We are so happy to see Graycie looking healthy and confident. You can follow her incredible journey on the Facebook page of Dr. Mathis’ clinic.
