Dogs love foods, balls, and sticks. All of these can usually be found in every household except for the last one. Sticks are not that easy to come by. Fortunately for Kaiapoi residents in New Zealand, someone was thoughtful enough to build a “stick library” for all dogs to use in their newly opened park.
A few months ago, Andrew Taylor was busy trimming the trees in their yard when he started wondering if the branches that he cut off could still be of use. That’s when he thought about dogs. As a dog owner himself, Andrew knows how difficult it can get to find a good stick.
Our dog Bella loves a good stick, but there were no good sticks at our new dog park in Kaiapoi. So my wholesome dad made a stick library so all the doggos can enjoy a good stick 😂😭🐶

This inspired Andrew to create a “stick library.” This will be a box that’s labeled “stick library,” and it contains the twigs that dogs can play with. Andrew will save the branches that he cut and put it inside a crate that’s made into a box. Then, he plans to put it in the park that will soon open.
According to Tayla Reece, Andrew’s daughter, it’s typical for her father to create things like this. Her dad even sanded and carefully cut the branches to create the perfect twigs. Tayla further noted that her father decided to name it “stick library” because dogs and their owners are expected to return the twigs once their pups are done playing with them.
Organised an impromptu community doggo date in Kaiapoi. See the stick library in action 😭😍🐶🐾 #wholesome

Tayla said that they have a dog named Bella. She ripped her balls and toys, so she became a stick lover. When the park finally opened on November 30, Tayla’s parents brought their pup there. They confirmed that there were indeed no good sticks in the park.
So, they placed the box there, and it immediately became one of the most popular attractions among dogs and their owners. Tayla also decided to organize a celebration for the stick library. She shared a clip about it on the social media page Kaiapoi Residents Noticeboard. People agreed that this was a great idea.
Tayla recalled that there were about 50 people who turned up together with their dogs. There was even one guy who brought his cat. It was a simple yet fruitful celebration.
