When walking the crowded streets of India, it is not unusual for you to see stray dogs wandering around, especially where people go to regularly like schools and markets. Although these stray dogs don’t have a place to call their home, there are certain places that they can go to in the city where they are sure to get fed by the people around them offering scraps.
However, since the lockdown to stem the sweeping Coronavirus pandemic has been enforced throughout the entire country, these dogs were left in the streets without a second thought. Luckily for them, some would risk exposure to this deadly virus just to make sure these dogs get what help they need to survive. One of these brave souls is a vet student named Vibha Tomar.
Food for the strays
Passionate about caring for animals ever since she was young, Vibha is currently studying to become a veterinarian. But when she saw the situation that the stray dogs were in during the lockdown in Delhi, she decided that she could already do something to help them right now – even if it wasn’t related to anything medical.
Helping during the lockdown
Vibha took action and created a trust to gather the funds she would need to buy dog food to give to the stray dogs left alone on the streets. She also sought the help of volunteers who would be willing to go out with her to feed the helpless animals. Armed only with a face mask and gloves, this brave young woman would leave the safety of her home more than once a day every day to care for these pooches.
Thanks to her hard work and bravery, there are already close to a hundred dogs, and other strays are getting fed every day. With the support growing for her cause, she is planning to increase that number bit by bit until all the stray dogs roaming the streets of Delhi will be looked after and fed.
